Ygnacio Valley High School (YVHS) is a public secondary school located in Concord, California , USA. It draws students from Concord and the neighboring communities of Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill. The school was opened in 1962, and its first high school graduated in 1964. Originally conceived as a temporary facility, the school is currently enrolling more than 1,500 students in grades 9 through 12. When the nearby Northgate High School opened in 1974, YVHS lost about half of its student body at the time. The school is part of the Unified School District of Mount Diablo.

 

Ygnacio Valley High School Athletics was founded in 1962. They are a Comprehensive Public High School located in Concord, California, and a member of the Unified School District of Mount Diablo. Their athletic program competes in the Diablo Valley Athletic League under the assent of the North Coast Section and the California Interscholastic Federation.

 

Their athletic program has a rich, successful history. They've had many remarkable alumni achieve high levels of success. For example, Ygnacio Valley alumni won multiple Super Bowls, World Series, NCAA Championships, Division 1 Program Coaches, worked at the NFL Team Front Office, became ESPN analysts and even CEO of Fortune 500 companies. At high school level, Ygnacio Valley has also won a number of league and section multi-sport championships. They are proud to say that Ygnacio Valley supports and encourages our students to do well in the classroom, in sport and in life.

 

Ygnacio Valley High School offers a wide variety of clubs. The Flags Squad coached by Sandra Esquivias is a popular club. The YVHS club team is one of the few flags teams in Northern California. They mainly perform at school rallies, but they also perform at other middle schools and events. The amazing team is headed by Angelica Noonan and Kimberly Rios Ochoa. Other members include Anna González, Alyce Zatarain, Erica Rios and Mark Catapusan.

 

Since March 22, 2017, Ygnacio Valley High School has been an IB World School. This school is the only school in the Unified School District of Mount Diablo to offer an International Baccalaureate program. The school coordinator is Mrs. Carrisa Weintraub. Some of the subjects offered are Spanish B, Mathematics and History. AP / Honors classes are also offered at Ygnacio Valley High School, such as Spanish and English Honors and AP World History.

 

During the 1988 presidential campaign, Vice President George Bush took part in YVHS and addressed the student body. In 1996, YVHS received another presidential visit when Bill Clinton and Vice-President Al Gore made a rare joint appearance. They visited the campus as part of the NetDay '96 event, which launched a drive to connect California's public schools to the Internet. YVHS is the ideal location for such high-security visits due to the limited access points to the school property. YVHS also received visits from the U.S. in the early 1990s. Representatives George Miller and Bill Baker, sponsored by the now defunct Public Policy Society of the School.
