Del Mar Dog Park

Del Mar's North Beach is also known as Dog Beach because it is the only spot on Del Mar's city beaches where dogs can be off-leash. Dogs can run freely from 29th Street North all the way to Solana Beach, except when they must be on-leash during the summer months. The main part of this beach is situated on the north side of the entrance to the San Dieguito River Lagoon, next to Camino del Mar. There are usually several volleyball courts set up in the big flat section of the beach. Surfers will break up near the river mouth and reefs north of it on sandbars. A trail leads up to an overlook above North Beach at James Scripps Bluff Preserve and is worth exploring. Parking can be found behind the beach along Camino del Mar and also at 29th Street.

 

You can come here at around 5 PM on Saturday since there’s a lot of people having fun with their fur-babies. It's a good size park and lots of room for dogs to run around.

 

Pros:

• lots of space

• two water fountains in the park

• pooper scoopers provided. No bags in dispensers; bring your own if you prefer to use bags

• nice trees in the park

• seating areas for humans

• Clean

• lots of people walking around, riding bikes next to the park

 

Cons:

• no grass (this is essential in a dog park)

• large electric tower thing in the middle of the park (it is surrounded by a fence)

• nothing to separate large dogs and small dogs

 

Del Mar Dog park has tons of rooms and is extremely clean! Be prepared to hear the electrical wires above and there is no separation for big/little dogs. Other than that, it is a great place for pet owners and their dogs to socialize with other canines.
