Ygnacio Valley High School (YVHS) in Concord, California, United States, is a public secondary school. This draws students from Concord as well as from Walnut Creek and Friendly Hill's neighboring neighborhoods. In 1962, the school opened, and in 1964, the first senior class graduated. Originally conceived as a temporary building, the school currently has an enrollment for grades 9 through 12 of over 1,500 total students. In 1974, when the adjacent Northgate High School opened, YVHS lost about half of its student body at the time. The school is part of the Unified School District of Mount Diablo.

Athletics

Since 1964, the Clayton Valley High School Eagles have been one of the school's biggest sporting rivals. The biggest competitor was the College Park Falcons, before the schools were redistricted in the early 2000s to avoid continuing vengeful stunts that impeded good sportsmanship. YVHS also shares a smaller rivalry with nearby De La Salle High School (as well as a property line).

On September 16, 2006, the first varsity Warrior football game played at the YVHS campus in 38 years took place. In August 2005, ground broke at YVHS on a new running track and all-weather turf football and soccer field. Most home football games were played at Mount Diablo High School or Diablo Valley College until the new field was constructed, due to bad field conditions, condemned bleachers, and a lack of lighting.

In December 2005, for the second time since 1999, a YVHS football team coached by Mike Ivankovich won the NCS-2A championship against Miramonte High School.

The YVHS football team won the DVAL League title for the first time in the 2009-10 football season. The league was formed two years earlier. The team then advanced to the NCS playoffs, losing to Eureka High School in the second round.

Joshua Davis, the head football coach, resigned in 2009 and Chris Turner was named the new head coach. Chris Turner stepped down in 2010, and former defense coordinator Todd Bauleke now serves as head coach.

YVHS switched its school colors to navy blue and gold in 1992. The student body assumed that for athletic team uniforms, the previous colors of powder blue and yellow were no longer trendy.

Academics

Ever since March 22, 2017, Ygnacio Valley High School has been an IB World School. This school is the only school to offer the International Baccalaureate program within the Mount Diablo Unified School District. Ms. Carrisa Weintraub is the coordinator for the school. Spanish B, Mathematics, and History are some subjects offered.

AP/Honors courses, such as Spanish and English Honors and AP World History, are also offered at Ygnacio Valley High School.

Famous visits

Then vice president George Bush made an appearance at YVHS during the 1988 presidential campaign and addressed the student body. When Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore made a historic joint appearance, YVHS got another presidential visit in 1996. As part of the NetDay' 96 gathering, they visited the campus, which kicked off a campaign to connect California public schools to the Internet.
