Del Amigo is a small alternative school in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District that also meets the requirements of continuing high school. It began in September 1969 with an initial enrolment of nineteen students and is now home to more than 100 students. Del Amigo offers the required subjects for a high school diploma as determined by the state and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.
Mission Statement:
Our school works to instill in its students a sense of pride that inspires them to have confidence in their ability to be successful in school and in life. At Del Amigo, the school community makes decisions and collectively holds each other accountable. We strive to provide students with the skills and tools necessary to achieve all they are capable of in an environment where both staff and students feel safe and supported by the district.
Del Amigo enrolls high school students who are at least 16 years of age and need support to get back on track towards graduation. The majority of students apply to Del Amigo because of credit deficiencies or a desire to attend school in a smaller setting that may address individual student needs in smaller classrooms. The school is located in Danville, in the San Ramon Valley, a suborn community located approximately 35 miles east of San Francisco. Business executives and professionals are a high percentage of its residents.
Del Amigo offers a Common Core curriculum to students who have not been successful at comprehensive high schools. At the end of each grading session, the student achievement and progress shall be assessed in order to determine the appropriate class placement for the subsequent grading period. English and Math classes are offered at different levels of challenge.
Students must earn 210 credits in order to graduate (courses completed with a grade of "D" better). Credits must include: four years of English, two years of math, two years of science, three and a half years of social science, two years of physical education, one semester of health, and two years from the following two years: foreign language, fine art, or technical / visual-performing arts.
The primary responsibility for student clothing and appearance rests with the parents. Education is the primary purpose of the school. Therefore, all aspects of school must be considered with this objective in mind. As a guide, students should be dressed in clothing that would be appropriate at the workplace.
Apparel wear shall be neat , clean, safe and not disruptive to instructional activities. All students must wear some kind of shoes, sandals or moccasins. Tattoos must comply with the dress code or otherwise be covered at all times.
