Pleasant Hill is a town in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area in Contra Costa County , California , United States. At the 2010 census , the population was 33,152. In 1961, it was incorporated. Pleasant Hill is the home of College Park High School, Diablo Valley College, John F Kennedy University, the Contra Costa County Library system's Pleasant Hill Library and administration offices, and the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District.

 

Geography and climate

 

The city has a total land area of 7.1 square miles (18 km2), according to the United States Census Bureau. With some valleys and rolling hills, Pleasant Hill has a diverse landscape. Oak forests and mixed woodland can be found in the undisturbed wilderness. It is located in San Francisco 's central East Bay.

 

There are warm and dry summers in this area, with no monthly average temperatures above 22 degrees Celsius (71 degrees Fahrenheit). Pleasant Hill has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated on climate maps as Csb, according to the Köppen Climate Classification System. Daytime temperatures in winter tend to be in the fifties and sixties, and summers range from the high seventies to the high eighties, often hitting the low nineties. On very rare occasions, during intense heat waves, temperatures can exceed the one hundred degree range. It is unusual to freeze in winter, but it does happen. Summer fog is occasional, but it is also common to have winter fog.

The park is a perfect place to host events, with vast lawns, BBQ pits, and picnic areas. It's great for taking children or playing sports, including a variety of playground structures, a sand pit, a baseball field, basketball courts, bocce ball courts, and an infant fenced-in area. Many of the open spaces in the park are lined by majestic redwood trees, offering plenty of shade. Pleasant Hill Aquatic Park is attached to the park, providing two public pools and a spray-ground. Come and exercise during lap swimming or one of the water fitness classes at the facility, or sign up for swimming lessons for your children and bring them to play during recreational swimming. The park is also connected to the Teen Center and Senior Center of Pleasant Hill.
