Mount Diablo High School, located in Concord, California, United States, is a public high school. It is the oldest school, established in April 1901, in the Mount Diablo Unified School District.

History

The closest high schools were in Berkeley and Oakland, but there were grammar schools in the city in the 1890s. Voters founded what was then known as the Mt. Diablo Unified School District in 1901, and classes were held for the first two years in various temporary sites, including the grammar school on Willow Pass Road and the Odd Fellows hall at the intersection of what is now Salvio and Colfax Streets. District trustees voted on 14 February 1903 to build the first MDHS building, which opened.

Digital Safari Academy

The Digital Safari Academy (DSA) was founded on a U.S. basis in the fall of 1996. Department of Education grant to combine the core academic curriculum with technical education. With professional multimedia design software, the aim was to do this. They will attempt to create it instead of using educational tools. Thus, they will create immersive programs about the cosmos or geology as learners who studied earth science. They would create interactive book reports or websites about their favorite poets while they were learning English. They would create websites for model e-businesses or a CD-ROM about World War II while they studied social science.

The Multimedia Safari Academy has received two California Student Media Festival awards since 1997. A seven-day webcast of the International Science and Engineering Fair was created by the academy in the spring of 2001. The Digital Safari Academy, through an annual internship program, provides design services to companies, non-profits, and other community organizations from 2007 through today. Numerous projects across the world have adapted the project management approach of the DSA.

A majority of DSA graduates choose to continue their education, preferring state and community colleges, graphic arts programs, or technical schools beyond high school. If more former students complete their career training, the number of graduates in the multimedia and technological industries is rising.

In 2013 the Digital Safari Academy expanded its course offerings even further to serve a larger student population: freshmen now participate in an Art and Design course that articulates for possible community college credit, and the original 10th-12th grade Multimedia pathway now runs parallel to a new Interactive Design pathway, which focuses on web design, game design, and software application development.
