What Materials Are Used For Paving Pool Decks?

Pool decks have been made of poured concrete for a long time, but this is changing with some contractors and in some regions. Issues related to concrete cracking and the complexity of repairs make this a less viable option than has been the case in the past. The emphasis on permeable pavement is also driving changes here. Above all, however, the use of unit paving instead of poured slabs has introduced some new materials to the world of pool deck. Issues related to perimeter overflow pools and their small invisible gutters are also driving new ideas for exotic hardwoods like ipe.

Most of the pool deck will fall into one or more of the material choices below. Some of them are highly variable with dozens of options, while others are more static. Recent EPA regulations on site runoff are one reason for increased interest in units rather than slabs. Permeable pool decks that allow water to flow through is a requirement in areas where LEEDS regulations are in force. This has opened up a new approach to decks that use unit pavers of any size and shape, which move naturally with the earth rather than cracking.

Bricks

Brick is one of the most common paving materials used in the pool. It is very economical, strong and very long-lasting. Brick is made of clay fired. It's weatherproof material that comes with a unique design and style. Brick is used for temporary and permanent structures.
