All sites, including the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) network, are accessible via major freeways and public transit systems. Also, campus shuttles run to and from BART stations in Hayward and Castro Valley.
Cal State East Bay has served the Bay Area as part of the California State University system for over 60 years , providing a diverse student body with access to higher education, and advancing regional engagement through its academic programs and leadership. Over the past 60 years, Cal State East Bay has come a long way — it has had five presidents, gone by five different names, and produced thousands of graduates entering the workforce of the region. Upon being officially established by the California State Assembly in 1957, the university was originally named State College for Alameda County. The first academic year, with 25 teachers and 293 students, started in 1959 at Sunset High School in Cherryland. In February 1961, groundbreaking celebrations were conducted for the new Hayward Campus, and the college relocated to its final site in Fall 1963.
